Bookfair 2012 Notes~ Jim Hodges

I want to blog about some of the speakers I heard at this year's bookfair.

First of all I have to say that I had a "10+" on my nametag this year! That means I've been going for 10+ years. WhooHoo! It's my favorite time of year.  Better than Christmas for me.

As I was going through my notes I decided to type them up here. Remember, these are notes so they may sound incomplete but they make sense to me. ;)

The first one is by Jim Hodges.  His talk was about being self-employed (SE).  Since my son and I are working on starting our own puppet show business this class was right up my alley. I had an advantage over some in the class because I knew what I wanted to do, I have experience and previous knowledge of my business idea.
Okay, on with the notes.

"You Can Be Self-Employed" by Jim Hodges

In case you don't know, Jim Hodges records audio books written by G.A. Henty

Jim says, this is SE in a nutshell:
"Find something you love to do anyway, get good at it and find a way to make money at it."

Questions to ask yourself before you become SE:

  • Why do you want to be SE?
  • How many hours are you willing to spend at it?
  • Are you great at it?
  • How committed are you?
  • How disciplined are you to work and stick with it?
  • What activates you to loose track of time?
  • What keeps you motivated, moving forward?
  • What is your greatest fear to overcome? (money, ridicule, failure)
  • What environment do you work best in? group, alone, scheduled, flexible
  • What are your bad habits that cripple you?
  • What experience do you have idea/business?
  • What is your deal breaker?  In other words complete the sentence;  I will not...
    • "It only matters what I do"
  • If married health of marriage 1-10
  • Spouse support 1-10
  • What is your current financial situation
  • Are you  out of debt?

Ok. Got your email, yes! I did read this, but didn't leave a comment. No reason, probably got distracted left the pc and came back later to find it closed out.
So...very interested in going over some of this with you. I'll email you from my other account...if that's ok.

I've heard of Dan Miller and Dave Ramsey recommends his book 48 days to the work you love (?) not sure of that title now. But it's close. I'll go check out the link you listed.

Look for my email soon, w/ my grades for myself... the 1-10 assessments.

and by the way! I'm leaving this comment on the 14th...
so...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY FRIEND!

LOVE YA-- Pat
