Spending Time with my grandson

We picked up "MLP" - the grandson this afternoon and he and I ended up out at the workshop until after 10 pm making a project.

He wanted another owl pillow.  This one he designed himself. He chose the shape and the fabrics.  I did the sewing. MLP is 9 years old.

He named him "Poindexter".  He has a plan to add a guitar and glasses.

Sewing projects...Done!

I've had a few projects just sitting and waiting to be finished.  I've been very bust but let's face it, I've been procrastinating.

DOWN WITH PROCRASTINATION!

So I went out to my trailer aka workshop and got busy.

I finished up this dress yesterday for my little granddaughter "M".

I also finished up these guys for puppetspace.com.  They'll be ready to ship this week!

I also chose a pattern, cut out and sewed up M's birthday outfit but I'm not posting a picture of it just yet.  I want mommy to be surprised.  I'll be mailing it this week to it won't be long before I can post it.

Now it's time for Sunday school!

AND and I get my other grandson also "M" tonight to stay the whole week!  Yay!  I don't get to see my grandkids often so when I do it's a real treat.

It's VBS time!

Castle in Progress
We put a castle in the foyer to kick off VBS Registration.  We are doing Group's Kingdom Rock VBS and we are loving it.  I love the castle theme and the Biblical truths that go with it.

Day 1
Bible Point: God’s love helps us stand strong.
Bible Verse: "I love you, Lord; you are my strength." (Psalm 18:1)
Bible Story: David writes about God's love. (Psalm 23)

Day 2
Bible Point: Family and friends help us stand strong.
Bible Verse: "So encourage each other and build each other up." (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Bible Story: Mordecai encourages Esther to do the right thing. (Esther 1–9)

Day 3
Bible Point: Prayer helps us stand strong.
Bible Verse: "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything." (Philippians 4:6)
Bible Story: Nehemiah perseveres to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. (Nehemiah 1–6)

Day 4
Bible Point: Trusting God helps us stand strong.
Bible Verse: "Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock." (Isaiah 26:4)
Bible Story: Jesus dies and comes back to life. (Luke 22:39–24:12)

Day 5
Bible Point: The Bible helps us stand strong.
Bible Verse: "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." (Psalm 119:105)
Bible Story: King Josiah follows God’s way. (2 Kings 22:1–23:23)

Another Sunday School Post. My classroom.

I'm working on my class.  I want to make it inviting and fun.  It's a work in progress.  I took some pictures today on my phone so the color isn't the best but I am sharing them anyway.

It's the idea that counts right?

Our current attendance chart
I got this idea from here.  Love her blog!!!

"Bible Neighborhood"
The houses are empty food boxes covered in construction paper with Bible "addresses" on them.
Each week we take the strips out, look up the verses and match them to the address. They love to be the one who reads the verse and puts in back in the house. :)

I got this paper for 15 cents on clearance at Wal-Mart after Christmas! Score!
Thank you Lord. ;)

Shelf up close.  I got these popcorn containers at Dollar Tree.
They hold our markers, crayons and pencils.

I would like to get better close ups when I can use my daughter's camera.

Airplane in Action! VBS 2012

Our VBS was so fun and this plane was one of the highlights!  It was so fun to make and so hard to hang!  Our ceiling is very high!  Thank goodness a man at church knows how to use the "cherry picker" or manlift or whatever that thing is called. LOL
It's up!

Here you can see how high it's hanging.

Making an Airplane for VBS 2012

I am making a bi-plane to hang in the sanctuary of our church for VBS.  We are doing Group's Sky VBS.

Okay, so the messes you see in the background here are in my "workshop".  I have a mobile home on my property that I use for my workshop/sewing room/storage/puppet workshop etc.  It's so nice to make these messes and then just walk away!

This is the bottom wing of the bi-plane painted red.
I cut it out of pink insulation foam.
We already had the foam and the paint so this is a free project so far!
This will be the top wing.

This is the rear wing.

This is the tail and the propeller.
I haven't decided what color the propeller will be yet.

This will be the fuselage (is that the right word?) made from a concrete form.
I already  had this too!
Another free resource! Yeah!

Everything drying!
This little craft tutorial was my inspiration for my shapes.  I hope it goes together like I want it too!

Church - Children's Hallway Painting Project

Here are some snapshots "in progress" of the hallways we painted last summer.  We took pictures of our kids at church and used them for the silhouettes.

It's bright and cheerful!

Summer Update & Sewing!

So I'm a terrible blogger.  I forget to update things.  We actually do have some things to say, I just forget to say it here. ;) I, in fact, talk a lot.  I just don't write a lot.

I so wanted to report 10 days in 10 days but only got 9.

This week DS is at youth camp and I have no connection to him there.  Only leaders have their phones, not that DS has a phone anyway, but still.

I have been doing some creative stuff and have tons more projects percolating in the old noggin.

Here's what I've made this week.  My little granddaughter is going to be "1" next month.  I can't believe it!  I've been making things for her b-day pictures and party.

ruffled bloomers (aren't they the cutest things?)

"1" t-shirt with the bloomers

party dress

flower for hair or head band

party bunting

bunting up-close

dress with a smaller flower attached

I've been making some other things too.  I may take some pictures and upload them later.

Baby Shower Gift Idea

I was invited to a baby shower for a baby boy. I wanted to do something different so I made this:

I made this out of a pack of diapers and a couple of different ribbons.  It's a baby bassinette!

Of course I should have taken pictures along the way to show how I made it but I didn't!  Sorry!

Carving a pumpkin...

Well, as it turns out ds age 12 has never carved a pumpkin.  We quit "doing Halloween" a long time ago.  I guess it's been about 12 years!  Anyway, this year I decided to get him a pumpkin to carve.  He decided to do some sort of video game helmet and here is his result. Can you guess what it is?

The carving...

This is it illuminated.  Cool!
I think he did a good job!  He drew the pattern and then applied it to the pumpkin.  I helped him do some of the scraping and a little of the carving - just the larger areas, but mostly he did it himself.

Aprons

I just found this pic of an apron I made earlier in the spring for my daughter's friend who was getting married.

We didn't use a pattern but it came out pretty cute!

My younger daughter is modeling it.

This apron is for my oldest daughter's b-day.  I haven't given it to her yet, I'm giving it to her tomorrow.

The picture really doesn't do it justice.  It's really pretty.  I hope she likes it.

Oh, and this is the fabric I used for my Nook cover.  She gave me the Nook for *my* birthday and I'm using the fabric from *her* birthday gift to make a cover!  LOL!

New Purse

I'm not really a cloth purse person, and I'm really not a hobo bag person, having said that today I made myself a new purse and it's a hobo bag.

I wanted a new purse just for a change but didn't have it in the budget to buy a new one, so I rummaged through my fabric stash (which is pretty shabby right now) and found something to make a purse out of and a while later, I had a new purse.

Here it is; mistakes and all! LOL

I used this pattern with some modifications.  If I like it I will actually invest in some fabric I love and make another.

Next time, I will remember to sew the closure on before I put it together, I will add the zippered pocket and I will make the bag just a little shorter, it's a little deep for me.

However I did add a pocket on front and some pockets inside for pens, cell phone, keys etc.

It was fun and easy to make.

I might become a cloth purse carrier after all!

Something new I love...

I got a Nook for my birthday this year and I just LOVE it!  I sort of admired these things from afar, but now I have one and get to use it every day.

I decided to make a cover for it to protect it and keep it clean.  I was looking online and they started at $30 up!!  No way!  And really, I didn't like any of them all that much.  I just wanted something to keep it in so I could carry it in my purse or bag. So I decided to make my own.

Here is the awesome Nook.

Here it is, tucked away safely.

Here it is with the cover closed.  I put a little strap on it so I could carry it easier.

It's so cute!  And it was free because I used scraps left over from another project. (I'll post that one soon.)

And did I mention that I really love the Nook?

New Personalized Blanket

I recently had an idea for a blanket and made one with my 6yo grand son. He loved it!

I laid him down on a piece of white fabric (I used a white sheet) and traced the outline of his whole body with a sharpie.

Then I let him color himself in with permanent crayons.

I had him pick out fabric for the back. He chose this...

Then I sewed it all up with batting in between and tacked it in a few places.

This is the result.

It looks like he has the measles or chicken pox in this picture, he doesn't. I just had a phone camera in a dark room. LOL. It isn't really showing by the look on his face, but he loved his new blanket.

I was fun and easy to make.

I'm going to make another one with a 5yo friend for his birthday.

They are definitely one-of-a-kind!

Birthday Tee Pee

I made my grandson this Tee Pee for his birthday. I hope he enjoys it.

Birthday Cake!

My 19 yo dd made this cake for my grandson's birthday party tomorrow.

I can't wait to see how he likes it!
