Sunday School Artwork

My Sunday school class learned the story today of the "Fantastic Feast".  We've been learning in this unit that "Jesus Does Great Things".

I had to share this picture because this student's work always amazes me.  First of tall these kids did NOT know how to weave!  But they were eager to learn and they wove these construction paper baskets.  What amazed me about this student is her fish!  She designed, drew and cut these out herself.  And may I add that she's a lefty using righty scissors?

1st and 2nd Grade Sunday school student's artwork

While the other students (and myself) were making the simple little fish you know, like this one...

I love teaching children! It seems like so much work behind the scenes but every single Sunday that I walk in that room and spend time with those kids; God shows up!  He always blesses me. :)

I quote Eric Liddel, "God made me fast. And when I run I feel God's pleasure."

This is how I feel about children's ministry!

Baby Shower Gift Idea

I was invited to a baby shower for a baby boy. I wanted to do something different so I made this:

I made this out of a pack of diapers and a couple of different ribbons.  It's a baby bassinette!

Of course I should have taken pictures along the way to show how I made it but I didn't!  Sorry!

I can't believe I did this...

I went to the bookfair yesterday, had a "10+" sticker on my name tag. Whoo Hoo!!!

And after 10+ years of going I can't believe that I bought....

All these years I've always made my own charts, lists and planners. No one else's "pre-made planner" has EVER had everything I needed.  But well, life has changed for me.  I have more outside responsibilities and time is of short supply lately.  I also have been forgetting things because my church job requires me to keep up with everybody's plans, and at home I have to keep up with everybody's plans, and I have my own plans too and well, this old brain ain't what she used to be!  I do use google calendar and all that e-stuff but sometimes you just need PAPER!

I'm really so excited about this planner/binder.  I can take it with me everywhere!  I will have a grocery list, menus, calendar, school plans, budget (if I choose to write that down) and more in this binder!

I already have visions of the days I forget to put something in the crock pot and it's too late, because I remember this about lunch time.  But now I will be able to look in my binder and see what else we have at home to eat, or have that list of a few groceries that I need to pick up between big shopping days and not waste brain power, energy and time!

So many other things too.  I'm sure I'll be talking more about this as I actually use it.

I got the planner book yesterday but have to wait a week or so for the binder to come.  It's sooooo pretty!

P.S. I know my dil will like this! ;)

Have I mentioned...

that I'm getting a new granddaughter at the end of July?  Well I am!  And we are soooooo excited about it!

Her name is still under wraps, but her loyalties are already set.
(sorry this one's blurry - camera phone)

These are the first things I bought.  I was on the phone with my son as he was telling me she was a girl... I went directly to the baby section and got these!  So fun and exciting!

Carving a pumpkin...

Well, as it turns out ds age 12 has never carved a pumpkin.  We quit "doing Halloween" a long time ago.  I guess it's been about 12 years!  Anyway, this year I decided to get him a pumpkin to carve.  He decided to do some sort of video game helmet and here is his result. Can you guess what it is?

The carving...

This is it illuminated.  Cool!
I think he did a good job!  He drew the pattern and then applied it to the pumpkin.  I helped him do some of the scraping and a little of the carving - just the larger areas, but mostly he did it himself.

Swimming with a broken wrist??

We had a family get together back on June 26 at a nearby State Park.  It was hot, but not too bad.  It could have been worse.

But dgs has broken his wrist this summer and has a cast up past his elbow but his mom found out about a waterproof cover that you can get to go over it for swimming and bathing.  Genius!

Here are Uncle and Nephew enjoying the cool lake on a hot summer day.  If you look closely you can see the blue arm dgs has.  At first he was concerned and didn't want to wear it, but as soon as he hit that water he forgot all about it.

We had a fun day enjoying family.

So things have been really busy lately. I can't really recall what we have been doing that is keeping us busy, but it is something I tell you.

We are going to continue some school work during the summer. But will be taking a break here and there.

For the first time in YEARS I will have no kids for ONE WEEK! What will I do? Everything without interruption!!!! ;D

I have my dgs for this week so I have extra kids now, but then come the 14th (my birthday) they all leave. YAY!

I need the break. I've been really stressed.

Can you tell?

How sleeping dogs lie...

DD was taking a nap on the couch. Goliath was taking one too (yes he's really asleep, not climbing!). I guess he's so long, he doesn't give much attention to his hind end! LOL

Soccer Disappointment

Today ds had a soccer game scheduled at 3:00 at our local field. Last night his coach called and said there was a make-up game also at 1:00 in a town about 30-40 min away. Two games back to back wow! So we drove FORTY minutes away for game #1. When we arrived ds jumped out to go join his team, and came back and told me the other team forfeited. Great. The coach came over to talk to us and said, "No, they are saying WE forfeited. The time of the game was changed and we didn't show up. There's a huge miscommunication going on here."

No kidding.

He continued, "That's not all. Our 3:00 game is cancelled because of scheduling conflict. Only one field is playable and we can't play on the other one. So just go on back home."

Ds was really disappointed, not to mention that we made an hour and a-half round trip for nothing!

Oh well, at least we had ice-cream on the way home!

Okay, so I got carried away with the tickers...

We decided to put a ticker to count down when L&L would be coming to TX. Then we thought, well DD's birthday is the same day, so we'll count that down too, of course then DS wanted his birthday one as well, then I thought about Christmas. So for now I have a lot of countdowns at the top of my blog. They won't stay there forever. Just for now. Just for fun.

File folder game

I'm working on a file folder game for a little sweet friend of mine. He has a hard time some days finding his "happy heart" as his mom calls it.

So I decided to make him his very own game.

I haven't made the cards yet but they will include situations - good and bad - that will either help him win the game, or set him back a few spaces. For instance, "Threw a fit - go back 2 spaces" or "Obeyed the FIRST time! - go ahead 1 space".

I'm not sure exactly how they will work, which is why I haven't made the cards yet.

I'm still thinking on it.

Here's the cover -

Here is the inside game board -

I used a photo of the boy and a couple of generic boys and girls for other players.

I also used velcro so that the pieces wouldn't slide around.

The Game pieces-

We've made several games over the years.

They are so much fun!

Sewing Baby Gifts +

I've been sewing again. Yesterday I made one large tote bag, one zippered bag, a purse organizer and 2 drawstring backpacks. I didn't get pictures of them and they are already gone on a mission trip! ;)

Today I made two hooded towels for baby gifts. They are both boy babies so the towels are in the blue family. I decided to add ears just for cute value.

Towel #1-

Towel # 2-

Towel #2 ears close up -

Sadly, I don't have a live model for the pic, just a rolled up Wal-Mart sack.
But these were easy and fun to make. I actually bought the towels with a different style of baby towel in mind, but this is what I ended up with.
I had a couple of these given to me when my youngest was born (11 years ago!) and we used those for many, many years. I loved them. He loved them. We all loved them. I hope these new moms love them too.

Interesting Fact

If I Ran the Zoo, published in 1950, is the first recorded instance of the word “nerd.”

Why God Made Grandmothers! I thought this was too cute!

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2009 when...

1. You accidentally enter your pin on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses...

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10... You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your
coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile.  : )

12 You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.
*****************************
A friend sent this to me in e-mail and I thought I'd post it here instead.  That should be #16!
